Distortion

Distortion

Distortion units distort the tone of an instrument by adding "overtones", creating a "warm" sound. To create a "dirty" or "gritty" sound, a unit further alters the tone by re-shaping or "clipping" its sound-waves so that they have flat, mesa-like peaks instead of curved ones. Distortion effects differ from overdrive effects in that that the former produces roughly the same amount of distortion at any volume.

Earthquaker Devices - Zoar Dynamic Audio Grinder
Zoar is a medium-high gain discrete distortion (using only transistors; no opamps or diodes in here!) that has that touch sensitive amp-like quality to it that everyone craves. It has been finely tuned to create a highly tweakable hi-fi and modern sounding distortion, but with the ghosts of old school circuitry to deliver a grind that is both instantly familiar and delightfully unique.
