Now We Are Ghosts started as an attempt to create a synthesizer out of a reverb. Start with the familiar filter, envelope generators, low-frequency oscillators, and voltage-controlled amplifiers. Then replace the voltage-controlled oscillators with the reverb voice. The result is Now We Are Ghosts. It’s a complex exploration of sonic space with lots of unique opportunities for creative mayhem.

Bathing is a liminal delay: perhaps a reverb, or a phaser, or a classic delay, but never exactly any one of these things. It’s a style of effect unique to the Old Blood lineup. You pick the overall delay time, the number of allpass filter stages it runs through to get there, and how you want to modulate the character of those stages. The rotary effect was one of the earliest modulation effects to hit the music scene. Originally designed for Hammond* organs, the Leslie* was a rotating speaker that created the recognizable Doppler effect (think church organ).
