Find notes by moving a slide (or two) along the strings!
The Moodytron has three strings. If you bridge the middle string with one of the outer strings, you get a tone with a frequency that depends on where you press down. It can be adjusted by moving the jumper up and down. If you have a good ear, you can play real melodies on it. Or you use it to make odd and funny sounds between the fixed positions, which are found on, for example, guitar or piano.
It can produce two independent tones at the same time. You can create these by either bridging the center string with both the other string (with one Moodytron slide). You can also use two Moodytron slides to create two different tones. Now you would bridge the center string with one of the outer strings to create the first tone and you would use the second slide to create the second note. In this way you can play a bass note with one slide and melody with the other for instance.
If you move a slide against the tuning screws, you get a higher pitch. If you move it towards the box you get lower pitch.
Note! 12 to 18v power supply, DC center negative (9v does not work). Power supply is not included.
Use standard quarter inch tele cables for output. If you use only output A, the two tones are mixed down to output A. If you connect one cable to output A and another cable to output B, the tones are separated so that tone A goes to out A, tone B to out B .
Extra feature: ± 5v CV (control voltage) output. As suggested by Nicolas Tourney of the records label: Snow in Water Records and the bands Seuil Optique, Nonsound, The Library Music Institute. Each output has a voltage output and the voltage follows the position of the slide. If no slide is pressed the CV rests at -5v. 0v is about the center of the string and +5v close to the tuning keys.
There is about 0.3 v voltage across the middle wire. If you are afraid of getting a shock don't touch the strings. Use the included slides to make the notes. No worries, the voltage is so low it can't be any safety issues.
I wanted to keep it simple and free from internal effects, but you can of course connect to an effect pedal such as chorus, flanger, delay...
The Moodytron has six control knobs. You can adjust Pitch, Intensity (volume) and Response for the two strings. You can set the Pitch so that the strings produce exactly the same tone when one slide is held over all three strings. You can also set them at a slightly different pitch to get a chorus effect. Or to any harmony you like.
Response determines the rise time, that is, how long it takes for the tone to grow to full strength (which is set by the Intensity knob) after the slide is applied. A long response time gives a slightly more stable tone, and contact bounce and impurities on the slide do not cause the tone to stick away and sway, which can happen if response is set to min.
The effect also has two octave switches and it can shift the tone one octave down. One switch for each string.
